Official sources
| Data | Source | How it is read |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol & diesel price, cost breakdown, Platts benchmark, exchange rate, levies | OGRA price publication (PDF, English) | Text extracted from the PDF; each line item read by its code (A, B, C…) |
| Hi-Octane by city, kerosene, LDO, JP-1, PSO pump prices | PSO fuel prices | HTML table parsed |
| Price history 2006–today | PSO POL archive + OGRA | All archive pages parsed once; recent pages merged on every run |
| Petrol subsidy scheme | Official announcements reported by APP, Radio Pakistan, Express Tribune, Geo | Summarised with links on the subsidy page |
Verification rules
- The petrol and diesel prices from OGRA must match PSO's notified prices to within Rs 0.01.
- The effective dates in both sources must match.
- A move of more than 15% from the previous price is treated as an error and needs manual confirmation.
- If any rule fails, the previous prices stay online and nothing new is published.
Latest run: publication #, effective 20 October 2026. Checks: petrol null, diesel null, same date null.
Update schedule
A Cloudflare Worker checks OGRA's publication list every 10 minutes. When a new publication appears, it starts the update job. The same job also runs on its own every 15 minutes as a backup. The job runs the scraper, saves the new price and history to the site's repository, and rebuilds the site. Each revision gets a permanent daily news post. Search engines are notified through IndexNow.
Estimates and calculations
- Vehicle mileage and tank sizes: typical figures. For cars we use the lower of the city and highway mileage PakWheels lists. For bikes we use manufacturer specs and PakWheels averages. They are labelled as estimates wherever they appear.
- Route distances: approximate. Single-motorway routes use NHA motorway lengths. City-centre distances are usually a little longer.
- USD and per-barrel figures: calculated from OGRA's own exchange rate and Platts averages, not live market quotes.
- CNG and LPG: shown only after a person enters a verified figure. Otherwise the page says "not yet published".
- Forecasts: we never forecast prices. The "tomorrow" page shows only the real recent trend.
Corrections
If an official source issues a corrected notification, the next run picks it up automatically and the old figure is replaced in the history. Errors found by readers are corrected as soon as they are verified against the official source.
